On April 28, 2025, one of Athens' oldest and most significant institutions, the Athenians Association, marked 130 years since its founding.
In an evening filled with historical resonance and quiet emotion, members and friends of the Association gathered to pay tribute to the city and to those who, with respect and dedication, have kept its identity alive over time.
ΗΜ Queen Anne-Marie attended the event, accompanied by her sons, Pavlos and Nikolaos De Grèce , who are also members of The Athenians Association. HM Queen Anne-Marie presented the Association’s Gold Medals to three distinguished individuals: Aspa Zaimi, Napoleon Nezer, and Ioannis Oikonomakis.
At the 1965 celebration marking the Association’s 70th anniversary, the then newlywed young HM Queen Anne-Marie had once again stood beside the Athenians Association, accompanying the late King Constantine II.
In his speech, Pavlos De Grèce stated:
"Our past, historical truth, and historical memory are essential elements that guide the steps we take in the present and will take in the future. The Athenians Association exists precisely for this reason — to preserve Athenian tradition and safeguard the city’s treasures, and we are deeply grateful for that."
